European Day of Languages

Every year the EUNIC Portugal network meets to celebrate the European Day of Languages. This year we have also invited some special guests!

On 28 September, between 14.00 and 19.00, EUNIC Portugal and the European Commission Representation in Portugal will mark this day with a cultural programme and some language activities.

This year the event takes place in the Jardim do Campo Grande, in Lisbon.

Entrance is free for all activities and visitors are invited to immerse themselves and all their senses into more than a dozen European languages: Croatian, Czech, English, Finnish, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Italian, Polish, Portuguese and Romanian and Spanish. Not forgetting Portuguese Sign Language...

Among many other activities, participants can:

  • join mini-talks of 5 minutes in the languages of their choice - "speak dating"
  • participate in games to test their language and cultural knowledge
  • attend concerts
  • watch theatrical performances
  • join in dances
  • watch stagings of poetic texts
  • see exhibitions.

Young visitors can also explore European languages through creative activities such as storytelling.

"Speak dating" participants can also enter a draw for language courses, which have been offered by the organisers of the European Day of Languages 2019.
