English course for beginners (A1) - Lisboa, Miraflores and Porto

• Learners who need to develop confidence in using English at a basic level to communicate in everyday situations.
• Learners may have studied English in the past but are out of practice and lack confidence and ability in using it to communicate.
• Learners may have little or no experience of learning English, even though they sometimes may understand some very simple phrases or vocabulary.

We build a positive and inclusive learning environment where everyone is welcomed and encouraged to participate. Classes are dynamic and provide plenty of opportunities for learners to speak as well as develop their listening, reading, and writing skills. Language is learnt in the context of real-life situations so right from the start the focus is on communication. The teacher introduces and helps learners understand and use new language (vocabulary, phrases, grammar points) using a variety of resources including images, audio and video. Our overall goal is to help learners develop confidence in using the language to communicate. 

In this 30 hour module you will learn how to: 

• Introduce yourself and others
• Say who people are
• Use numbers to talk about days, dates, times and prices
• Ask and answer simple questions
• Talk about where you live
• Talk about what you do (work or study)
• Write a short paragraph about yourself
• Talk about food
• Order something from a menu
• Talk about travel plans
• Talk about what you do on holidays
• Buy a bus or train ticket
• Ask for information
• Make arrangements to meet someone
• Tell people about a recent holiday or trip
• Write a short paragraph about your holiday or trip

Learners will need to buy a coursebook which will be used over three modules of 30 hours each:

When learners join our course the teacher will give them access to an online platform which provides plenty of further practice activities linked to the coursebook Outcomes Beginner.

Learners who achieve A1 level:

• can understand and use very common everyday expressions and simple phrases for immediate needs.
• can introduce themselves and other people and can ask and answer questions about personal details, such as where they live, things they have and people they know.
• can communicate in a simple way if the other person talks slowly and clearly.
